Arian Foster signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins?on Monday, saying he is starting a new chapter of my life. The deal is worth $1.5 million and includes incentives that could bring its total value to a maximum of $3.5 million, a league source told ESPNs Adam Schefter.Fosters agent, Mike McCartney, announced the news Monday afternoon when he tweeted congratulations to the former Houston Texans star.Foster, a four-time Pro Bowl running back, discussed why he joined the Dolphins later in the day on a conference call.Theyre a young team, a hungry team, Foster said after the Dolphins officially announced the signing. [They have] a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. I think they have the right head coach and the right people in the front office. Theyre all committed to winning there.Foster will join a Dolphins backfield that is in flux after Lamar Miller, Miamis leading rusher last season, signed with the Texans. Jay Ajayi and rookie Kenyan Drake currently are atop the Dolphins depth chart at running back. The Texans did not offer Foster a pay cut before releasing him on March 3. Foster, who has a history with injuries, turns 30 in August. The Texans were set to spend nearly $9 million in cap space on Fosters salary, but Texans general manager Rick Smith said the decision to release Foster would not be based on his salary. The time that I spent in Houston was an amazing time, Foster said. Im grateful for the people that I met, my family that I made there and my family that lives there now. I got nothing but love for the people and fans of Houston. This is a new chapter of my life.Foster played in only four games last season, hampered by two significant injuries. He suffered a torn groin in training camp that caused him to miss three games. He returned for four games, but then suffered a torn right Achilles tendon in the final five minutes against the Dolphins on Oct. 25.Since becoming the Texans starter in 2010, Foster has had a torn meniscus, multiple hamstring injuries, a knee injury, a back injury that required surgery, a minor groin injury, a major groin injury and a torn Achilles tendon. In that time, Foster has carried the ball an average of 20 times per game, the highest average in the NFL.Foster went to the Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2009. He spent most of that season on the practice squad, being elevated to the active roster in November. The 2010 season marked his breakout year. Foster rushed 33 times for 231 yards in a season--opening win over the Indianapolis Colts, sealing his role as the Texans starting running back. He won the rushing title that year, gaining 1,616 yards on 327 carries, and went to his first of four Pro Bowls after that season.ESPNs Adam Schefter, Tania Ganguli, James Walker and Mike Rodak contributed to this report. MILWAUKEE -- After taking three of four from the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Milwaukee Brewers will look to keep their momentum going Friday when they open a three-game set with the Pittsburgh Pirates at Miller Park. The Brewers home park has been a house of horrors for the Pirates, who have dropped 61 of 78 games there since 2007. The Brewers have had their way with Pittsburgh in general, posting a 100-56 mark against the Pirates during that same stretch -- the second-highest winning percentage by one team over a divisional foe during that span.Itll be up to Junior Guerra to keep it going. The 31-year-old rookie will take the mound Friday for his 16th start of the season but in search of his first victory since July 4.Guerra pitched well in his three starts since, holding opponents to five runs with 13 strikeouts in 18 innings of work, but the Brewers have managed just eight runs in those contests. He held the Cubs to just one unearned run over 6 1/3 innings in his last start, dropping his season ERA to 2.85.I thought he was great, Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. He did more of the same from him. I thought kind of early in the game he got some three-ball counts on some guys and some deeper counts on some guys. But he still really recovered from them. The four walks today was a little high for him. Maybe his stuff wasnt quite as crisp as its been in the paast, and still, he did everything he possibly needed to do to have a good game.ddddddddddddGuerra faced the Pirates twice in his brief career, including his only start against them on July 18, when he took no decision after allowing two runs on three hits and struck out six over six innings.Pittsburgh will hand the ball to rookie left-hander Steven Brault, who will return to the Pirates after a brief return to Triple-A Indianapolis, where he turned in back-to-back scoreless six-inning outings.Brault made his major league debut on July 5, allowing two runs -- one earned -- on four hits with five strikeouts and a pair of walks over four innings of work. A Gregory Polanco error smeared his line score a bit and likely made his debut outing a little bit shorter than planned.I was less nervous at first than I thought. When I got into trouble, then it hit me a little bit, but overall I reacted well, Brault said after the game. I tried to keep doing what Ive been doing. With all the guys around me, its easy to feel comfortable on the mound and let my defense do the work. I tried to be myself and had a lot of fun. After the game, he was optioned back to Indianapolis, where he had gone 2/3 with a 2.31 ERA in nine starts to open the season. ' ' '
