SPRINGFIELD, N.J. -- Jordan Spieth hit the reset button after the U.S. Open, a prudent decision to keep from looking in the rearview mirror.Gone was the burden of trying to repeat 2015 by winning the Masters and U.S. Open in the same year. This was all about looking ahead at two more majors, not so much to salvage the year but the chance to make it another great one. And now, even that is about to end.Golf, known for its deliberate pace, is on warp speed this year.I had said after the U.S. Open it felt like now the second half is starting, Spieth said. And all of a sudden, you know, thats the end of the majors for the year.Blame it on Rio.Golf is back in the Olympics for the first time since 1904, a dozen years before the PGA Championship was held for the first time. To make room on the schedule, the PGA Championship agreed to move up to the final weekend of July ahead of the Rio Games. That left 11 days between the end of one major and the start of another. From a claret jug to the Wanamaker Trophy with barely enough time to breathe.Thats pretty mad, Graeme McDowell said with a slight grin as he shook his head. An unusual summer.Ready or not, the final major starts Thursday at Baltusrol Golf Club. This will be the ninth major at Baltusrol, which includes the U.S. Open seven times. Phil Mickelson won at Baltusrol in the 2005 PGA Championship, making birdie on the final hole to claim at the time was his second major. The PGA Championship has the strongest field of all the majors, and it really stands out in an Olympic year. No one is skipping Baltusrol except for injury, while the Olympics will have only eight of the top 25 in the world. As for the timing? The PGA Championship, before it settled into a traditional August date in 1969, used to be all over the calendar. Jack Nicklaus won the 1971 PGA Championship in February when it was held at PGA National in Florida. The PGA was held in December 1929 at Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles. Over the years, it has been played in every month except for January, March and April. What doesnt change about the 98th edition of the PGA Championship are the stakes. For years, the slogan of the final major was Glorys Last Shot, and that still applies. This is one last chance for players to reshape their outlook on the year, to turn a good season into a great one. That starts with Spieth, defending champion Jason Day and Rory McIlroy. They began 2016 as the modern version of the Big Three because they had traded turns at No. 1 in the world, they had combined to win five of the previous six majors and there were all in their 20s.But going into Baltusrol, all three are in danger of being shut out in the majors this year.Spieth is having a very good year, and he needs reminded of that every now and then. He has won twice, including in his home state of Texas. He was one bad swing away from winning the Masters again. It just feels like a failure compared with last year, when he won two majors and his worst finish was missing the playoff at St. Andrews by one shot. The high expectations created from 2015 are starting to wear on him.Had last year not happened Id be having a lot of positive questions, he said. Instead, most of the questions I get are comparing to last year and, therefore, negative. Because its not to the same standard. So thats almost tough to then convince myself that youre having a good year when nobody else ... even if you guys think it is, the questions I get make me feel like its not.One major could change the outlook.Ditto for McIlroy, whose only victory was the Irish Open before a home crowd. McIlroy ended 2014 with two straight majors, and he lost a chunk of last year recovering from an ankle injury. This was going to be the year when he asserted himself, except it hasnt happened. He missed the cut in the U.S. Open and didnt finish closer than five shots in the other two. Now imagine him holding the Wanamaker Trophy for the third time. Frustration becomes instant gratification. All I can do is keep plugging away, McIlroy said after he tied for fifth at the British Open, 16 shots behind. Its really close. Im staying positive about it. I feel like good things are happening. If I can drive the ball like I did this week at Baltusrol and sharpen up a few bits and pieces, I think Ill be right there.Day has been No. 1 in the world since March, and his three victories are the most on the PGA Tour. When he won The Players Championship in May, it was his seventh victory in the last 10 months. It has been a very good year. A major makes it a great one.Any of the major winners this year -- Masters champion Danny Willett, U.S. Open champion Dustin Johnson and British Open champion Henrik Stenson -- can claim the best year in golf by adding another major. That all have one thing in common at Baltusrol: Its their last shot until next spring at Augusta National. Paul Millsap Jersey . -- Aaron Murray threw for 408 yards and three touchdowns, ran for another score, and led No. Michael Porter Jersey . -- Timbers coach Caleb Porter didnt stray from his business-like approach to the season even after Portland downed the two-time defending league champion Los Angeles Galaxy to gain crucial playoff position. http://www.nuggetsproshop.com/Malik-Beasley-Nuggets-Jersey/ . MORITZ, Switzerland -- Fog prevented downhill racers from getting their Olympic dress rehearsal. Dikembe Mutombo Jersey .875,000, avoiding arbitration. Clippards deal Monday means all eight Nationals players who filed for arbitration wound up settling before a hearing. Carmelo Anthony Jersey .com) - The Chicago Blackhawks aim for their third three-game winning streak of the season when they host the struggling Edmonton Oilers in Sundays battle at the United Center. MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins acquired starting pitcher Hector Santiago a minor leaguer from the Los Angeles Angels for right-handers Ricky Nolasco and Alex Meyer and cash, completing the deal Monday just before the non-waiver trade deadline.Santiago, an All-Star last season, is 10-4 with a 4.25 ERA in 22 starts with 107 strikeouts and 57 walks in 120 2/3 innings. Hes eligible for free agency after the 2017 season. The Angels also sent Double-A reliever Alan Busenitz to the Twins. Were getting a starter who we can plug right in, and hes excited about the opportunity, Minnesota manager Paul Molitor said. He certainly knows how to pitch. This is a good chance for a change of scenery for him.The 33-year-old Nolasco went 15-22 with a 5.44 ERA for the Twins since signing before the 2014 season a $49 million, four-year contract that went fulfilled. Meyer, a once-promising prospect who has sputtered in four seasons with the organization, was acquired in 2012 from Washington for center fielder Denard Span. This wasnt the typical trade-deadline deal, given that both the Twins and the Angels are way out of contention.According to the Twins, the remainder of Nolascos $12 million salary this year will stay with the Twins and the rest of Santiagos $5 million salary this season will stay with the Angels. The Twins will then send $4 million to the Angels in 2017 toward Nolascos $12 million salary. As a result, the Twins pay the Angels $6,371,585: $2,371,585 this year and $4 million in 2017. If the Angels decline Nolascos option, the Twins must send the Angels an additional $1 million.Nolasco leads the Twins this year with 124 2/3 innings, 93 strikeouts and 21 starts, but hes 4-8 with a 5.13 ERA. If he logs 400 or more innings over the 2016 and 2017 seasons, his $13 million club option for 2018 will be guaranteed.Over an 11-year career in the majors, Nolasco is 104-97 with a 4.58 ERA. His 3.41 strikeout-to-walk ratio is 10th in the majors in that span among pitchers with a minimum of 1,500 innings.Telling Ricky he was traded was tough, Molittor said.dddddddddddd. He brought it all on the mound in every start for us, and Im grateful for that. For a rotation decimated by injuries this season to C.J. Wilson, Garrett Richards and Nick Tropeano, Nolasco is at least a slight downgrade from Santiago. But the Angels were willing to swap for the chance to harness the ability of Meyer. The 26-year-old has a 1.04 ERA in 17 1/3 innings with 19 strikeouts for Triple-A Rochester, but he has been hampered by shoulder trouble. This is his third straight season in Triple-A, having struggled with his control and his confidence since reaching the top level of the farm system. The 6-foot-9, 220-pound Meyer was a first-round draft pick by the Nationals in 2011.Meyer has allowed 10 runs in 6 1/3 innings in the majors, making four appearances for the Twins.Santiago, who made his major league debut with the Chicago White Sox in 2011, went 7-0 with a 2.52 ERA in his last nine starts for the Angels. The Twins announced that Santiago would start Thursday at Cleveland, the finale of a four-game series. Left-hander Tommy Milone was moved to the bullpen, with rookie Jose Berrios recalled from Triple-A Rochester to take the mound Monday.Earlier in the day, the Twins traded left-handed reliever Fernando Abad to Boston for minor league pitcher Pat Light. Last week, they sent shortstop Eduardo Nunez to San Francisco for minor league pitcher Adalberto Mejia. Veterans such as starting pitcher Ervin Santana, closer Brandon Kintzler, catcher Kurt Suzuki and third baseman Trevor Plouffe stayed put, but any of them still could be dealt this month by first clearing waivers. The 25-year-old Busenitz, a 25th-round draft pick by the Angels in 2013, has a career 3.55 ERA in the minor leagues. The right-hander was hit hard with Triple-A Salt Lake in 10 appearances this season but posted a 1.93 ERA in 32 2/3 innings for Double-A Arkansas. The Twins will send him to Double-A Chattanooga.
