RIO DE JANEIRO -- The bullet which flew through the roof of a media tent at the Olympic Equestrian Center on Saturday was just an unfortunate incident, Brazilian military and police said. There was a scare during the lunch break at the eventing dressage on the first day of the games as a military-looking bullet pierced the roof of the tent and landed on the floor. The competition was not disrupted and nobody was hurt.Authorities are investigating: the type of bullet, the distance, where it comes from, why it comes here, organizing committee spokesman Mario Andrada said. The first information that we got is that they can clearly determine this area was not the target, it was a stray bullet. They can confirm it has nothing to do with the games but they cannot be more precise at the moment. The bullet landed close to one of the media tables at the end of the room where news conferences are held, leaving a clear hole in the roof.Obviously this is a worrying situation and is not an incident we can take lightly as the safety of everyone at our venue -- athletes, horses, media and spectators -- is of prime importance, FEI president Ingmar De Vos said in a statement. The Rio 2016 organizing committee have told us that the three authorities involved in security in Brazil, the military, civil police and national guard, have stated categorically that our venue was not the target, and that this incident has nothing to do with the games.Andrada refused to speculate on where the bullet could have been fired from but said the entire competition venue is situated on military land.As soon as we have information we will disclose that, especially where it comes from, why it got here and what kind of bullet it was, Andrada added. In the meantime, all the authorities have assured us that they have reinforced security around this area.More than one source in the different security areas have emphasized that they have 100 percent assurance that it has nothing to do with the games and with the presence of the Olympic family and the press in this area. The incident came shortly after bomb-disposal experts blew up an unattended bag near the finish line of the mens road cycling race.We have to react to a global worry, Andrada said. Were not living in an easy moment so the authorities opted for the safe side. In a way its good that they opt for the safe side, independently to the fact that this generates tension on the communication front. Wed rather have the security in perfect shape than the communications.I understand it was a backpack that someone forgot. In the arena, William Fox-Pitt leads after the first day of the eventing competition, just 10 months after being put into an induced coma following a fall.Fox-Pitt, who only returned to competitive action in early April, rode Chilli Morning to a score of 37.Christopher Burton of Australia and Santano II are second, 0.6 penalties behind the Briton, with reigning Olympic individual champion Michael Jung third with 40.9 aboard Sam FBW.Germany, which is bidding for a third straight Olympic title, leads the team competition, with Australia second and Britain third. THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Michael Brockers realizes just how special it is to play on one of the NFLs best defensive lines with the Los Angeles Rams.He wasnt about to do anything to break it up.The defensive tackle agreed to a three-year contract extension Thursday, securing his future with the Rams through 2019.It feels good to be wanted, Brockers said after practice. Im just glad its done and its finished, and I can get that little thing out of my mind and actually focus on football. The 6-foot-5 Brockers is a key component of the Rams dominant defensive line. The position group is easily the Rams strongest, with Brockers on the interior alongside All-Pro Aaron Donald, ends Robert Quinn and William Hayes, and a gifted group of reserves.Brockers had career highs with 74 tackles and 12 tackles for loss last season while chewing up space and occupying blockers to allow his teammates to make plays. Middle linebacker Alec Ogletree appreciates the dirty work done by the Rams big men up front. You couldnt ask for anything better, Ogletree said. Youve got, to me, the top D-line in the league. It makes it a lot easier when I know (opponents) are worried about the front four, so I have time to go make a play because theyre so worried about the D-line. Its a linebackers dream.Brockers got his deal a few days before the teams home opener at the Coliseum against Seattle this weekend, when Los Angeles will get its first real look at the Rams new version of the Fearsome Foursome. The NFL Network reported the extension is worth more than $33 million. Brockers is making $6.15 million this season.Brockers has 14 1/2 sacks and two forced fumbles in 62 career games with the Rams, starting all but one.Hes a big man inside, and you have to have that nowadays, Rams coach Jeff Fisher said. He creates opportunities for everybody else, and then every so often he makes a big play himself. Hes beeen consistent.dddddddddddd. Hes been week-in, week-out. Hes changed his body since his arrival, overcame some early-career injuries, and has just been one of those guys you can count on.The Rams defensive line is entering its third season together, and Brockers extension will make it easier to keep the group intact. Brockers, a Houston native, starred at LSU before the Rams made him the 14th overall pick in the 2012 draft. Quinn has been with the Rams since 2011, while Hayes arrived as a free agent along with Brockers in 2012. Donald completed the group in 2014.Playing with these guys, theyre like my brothers, Brockers said. I grew up with them. Weve been through a lot with each other, so I didnt want to leave them. You kind of get out of your comfort zone when you become a free agent and get that unknown, so it feels good to be here where I started. They actually all started together in St. Louis, but Brockers has comfortably made the move to Southern California. With his new paychecks, he wont worry quite so much about buying a home in the pricey far-western suburbs where the Rams are headquartered. You cant beat this weather, but I definitely see what you pay for out here, Brockers said. The Rams have been busy securing the long-term futures of their core players since arriving in Los Angeles, most recently giving a four-year extension to receiver Tavon Austin during the preseason. Ogletree seems likely to get the next contract after taking over for James Laurinaitis in the middle of Los Angeles defense this year.I would like to be signed, but right now Im still on my rookie contract, so thats what Im playing on, Ogletree said with a laugh, declining to comment on negotiations.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
